"My reasons for coming? I knew that unless I did something about my chronically poor posture I was in danger of ending up very round shouldered. Reason number two was that my chiropractor had suggested that to become more fit and strong I take Pilates. My Doctor had also observed that the patients she had with the best posture very often did Pilates.

I have had two Pilates sessions a week for over a year now. Has it made a difference? Yes! Progress may seem slow but there are “aha” moments when you realize that you are actually doing what seemed impossible just months earlier.

As I lightly banter / socialize with my fellow self-directed group members in between bouts of great concentration and focussed effort, I am encouraged by their noticeable progress and fitness as well. It’s great that we can all have our own, individualized programs and still be in a “group” that is ever changing.

My goal for this year is to become even more toned, stronger, and learn to sit straighter when at a computer. And I have just four pounds more to lose to reach that weight goal – a great side effect that came through a better self-image from mastering so many Pilates moves."

"Reformer Pilates has changed my life! I have suffered with pain for over 20 years because of multiple injuries.

I started working out at Pilates Unlimited in May 2007 and the difference in my health is just incredible. I started with the private classes to learn the basics and then moved to self-directed classes. The results are incredible. After two classes I noticed a real reduction in pain, after six I realized I didn’t need to see my physiotherapist nearly as often.

My university offered reformer classes so I thought I would try them out but after two classes I switched back to Pilates Unlimited. The personal attention, staff knowledge and friendliness, and flexible schedule make it the only place for me. 

I am stronger and fitter than I have been in decades and things that used to cause me pain, or throw a joint out of whack, are easier for me. "Ten years ago I damaged a disc in my lower back in an accident at work. Since that time I have experienced severe muscle spasms that hit with no warning and would leave me almost unable to walk for 2-3 days. I consulted several doctors and none of them could tell me what was causing the problem - they just kept prescribing anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants.

When a friend suggested Pilates, I decided it was worth a shot although I was skeptical that it would help. The first thing that impressed me was the comprehensive knowledge of anatomy on the part of the instructors at Pilates Unlimited. They developed an exercise program for me that was designed to strengthen the muscles that stabilize my back.

I used to experience really bad back pain every 6 weeks or so - I've been doing Pilates now for 7 months and haven't had one episode. I give the instructors at Pilates Unlimited full credit for this".

"I started Pilates in February 2005 and, although I'm now 5 months pregnant, I have never missed one of my twice weekly sessions.

I've always been fit and healthy and have done weight training, yoga and any kind of exercise I could, for most of my life. I have found that my physical strength has improved the most in the past year since I've been doing Pilates and that my over all body shape has become the leanest and most flexible I've been in a very long time. Pilates combined with regular cardio has been the best recipe for me so far, for staying fit.

Even during bad spells of morning sickness I managed, with ease, to make all of my classes. My program has been adjusted to my needs as my pregnancy progresses, which always makes me feel safe. I will probably continue until the day of the birth and will not be wasting time afterwards before resuming my classes!

"I have known Monique, owner of Pilates Unlimited, since 2001 when I took my Level 1 Mat training. In June 2006 I completed my Apparatus training with her.

I have great respect for her professionalism, expertise and candor. Monique taught me that it's not just about learning the individual exercises but learning how to apply the exercises and teach them to the individual client, as everyone's body is different. That's why the apprenticeship hours and observation hours are so crucial for the whole learning process. I appreciated the fact that Monique taught me with a very hands-on approach, and under her tutelage it was "sink or swim".
